Interactive Dinosaur Garden Revitalization at Palm Beach Children’s Hospital
Matthew was treated in some of the finest hospitals in the United States. He not only received excellent medical care, but was able to escape from the realities of his treatment in the hands of Child Life departments, who provided environments with arts, crafts, games and sweets. He often said those activities and distractions made the long days much more manageable and far less grim. We wanted to offer a similar experience to other children, in memory of Matthew.
We were delighted to discover the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital (PBCH) at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Upon entering the DinoSOAR Garden for the first time, we learned that the hospital had plans to renovate and improve the wonderful space, but had yet to secure funding. We immediately knew that this was a project for the Matthew Lehrman Osteosarcoma Fund!
PBCH is the only children’s hospital between Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando. The outstanding level of the Child Life Team and physicians and staff have been an inspiration to us. We are thrilled to be involved in revitalizing the beauty and adding some new fun for their patients and families, a large percentage of whom come from the underserved communities of Palm Beach County.
This is only the first step. We have big plans for Palm Beach Children’s Hospital!
